Rangers vs Feyenoord Europa League Group G 8:00pm Thursday September Ibrox Stadium Steven Gerrard has called on Rangers to deliver a Europa League victory against Feyenoord as a tribute following his death at the age of 43 to former Light Insights defender Fernando Ricksen. The ex-Netherlands international, who made more than 250 appearances for the Ibrox team between 2000 and 2006, died on Wednesday morning and were fighting engine neurone disease for six years. Gerrard is currently preparing his new players to confront the Eredivisie side and needs them to win for Ricksen. He explained:"It is extremely sad news for everyone on the club and, more importantly, his young family. On behalf of the club I would like to pay tribute. He was a great player who had a decorated career. "I am sure there will be a good deal of emotions in the arena and I think Fernando deserves this. I am sure both sets of supporters will pay their respects. "We request the supporters to get right behind the team because I think it could be a great tribute to him when we can put in a good performance and try to get max points. "I think everybody knows ahead of a ball is kicked, if this was the situation, we'd surely dedicate it to him along with his family. "It's quite sad. I'm sure the supporters are very sad now and also we who are responsible for Thursday's performance want to do whatever we can to attempt to find a win and dedicate it to him." The hosts will be without Ryan Kent, who tweaked a hamstring during the victory over Livingston. Gerrard has hinted he would be ready to throw Jamie Murphy straight into the fold that was first-team after missing with a cruciate knee injury. Jordan Jones suffered an injury through the Old Firm match and stays absent. Feyenoord will be without Sven van Beek, whereas Jens Toornstra, Nicolai Jorgensen, Jan-Arie van der Heijden and Steven Berghuis are doubtful. The previous encounters between Feyenoord and also Rangers were at the 2001-02 UEFA Cup - that the side won 4-3 on aggregate en route to winning the prize. Rangers have already played eight matches in European competition this year, winning six of their Europa League qualifying matches (D2) while keeping six clean sheets. Feyenoord have dropped seven of their past eight games in important competition, however they gained their last match from the 2017-18 Champions League against Napoli. Alfredo Morelos scored eight goals in Rangers' eight Europa League qualifying matches this season. The Colombian was the only Rangers player to score over once from the Europa League last season (two ). Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has scored nine goals together with each one these coming for Spurs between 2013 and 2012. This will be a roaring game. Feyenoord have a strong reputation. Feyenoord have the fire but are not currently bringing . These nights, rangers enjoy and that is why Steven Gerrard is there. They haven't clicked into gear. Jaap Stam's negative will sit in for 20-25 minutes and this may lead to frustration around Ibrox - . Alfredo Morelos is your threat along with Feyenoord will be turning up him whether they could get to him to see. He seems a good deal calmer than what he's been in the past! It is not an easy night. It will be stressed and quite physical. If Rangers have the knowledge to make it through these games 16, I really don't know.
