Martinez was announced the winner from third-round knockout on the undercard of Vasiliiy Lomachenko-Luke Campbell on August 31, but replays showed after Edwards had already taken a knee, the final blow came. The end result was so abbreviated as Edwards kept his crown and, although WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman said minutes afterwards thata direct rematch will be ordered, the Londoner has chosen to move up in weight. At a letter to Sulaiman, Edwards wrote:It actually scared me how much I was putting my health on the line and I cant risk causing harm to myself because health is the one most important thing in life. I am gutted because I appreciate being WBC world champion and so proud in order to be in history as WBC flyweight world champion. I want to continue to represent the WBC and really, really need to push through the super flyweight ranks and persuade (sic) the super flyweight title. But I wanted to let you understand first before anybody else I will be vacating the title to go up and struggle at the new weight. Earlier comfortably outpointing Angel Moreno at March, edwards, who has won 15 of the 17 specialist competitions, became world champion with a decision win over Cristofer Rosales in December a year.
