The 2018 Winter Olympics

The Olympic Games are divided into two contests -- the Summer Olympics and the Winter Olympics. Both take place every four decades. The Winter Olympics is the smaller of the two competitions, but it features events and several distinct sports. Somewhat of course, the Winter Olympics are for sports which are practiced on snow and/or ice. They featured curling, and ski in various forms, together with figure skating, speed skating, bobsleigh. In recent decades sports are added to the schedule. These include some other kinds of skiing and skiing, skating, and skeleton (a type of sledding). The introduction of more sports has helped to widen the appeal of the Winter Olympics. They were traditionally of interest mostly in North America and Europe, as most of the competing athletes came from these regions. Throughout the last few years, however, athletes in countries like South Korea and Australia have competed successfully in occasions. It has contributed to increased audiences across the world. Every single Winter Olympics is held in a different host city. To date, they have been held in eleven states spread across the three continents. The United States has been home to the competition more times than any other country (4), most recently back in 2002. The previous Winter Olympics were held in Sochi, Russia. The next would be to be held in PyeongChang County, South Korea. That is the first Winter Olympics of South Korea, though they also hosted the Summer Olympics in 1988.
