Britain's Alfie Hewett and Andy Lapthorne drifted to the quad and open singles finals of the US Open men respectively of showcasing some of their best tennis after a week. The pair also stay on course to potentially finish a US Open dual using both featuring in the doubles finals in their branches. Hewett, who played with both his quarter-final and semi-final in exactly the same day due to rain delays, has left it to the point . He started the day with a 6-3 7-6 (7-2) victory over Japan's Shingo Kunieda and following this up with equally as strong semi-final performance against France's Nicolas Peifer taking just 75 minutes to emerge on top 6-3 6-4. "I love it here," Hewett told Sky Sports. "The Warriors fit my game style really well, I just feel relaxed and I always feel I can play my best tennis. It is very good to get rewarded after each of the hard work that has gone all year." The seven-time Grand Slam winner will now play with his third US Open final and it will be a re-match of the first one way back into 2017 from France's Stephane Houdet. On that occasion he finished with honours, but he is hoping this time , here this year, as defending winner. "All I will say is congratulations to Stephane on his own semi-final response against Gustavo (Fernandez), who is probably player of the year in terms of form," the British Number 1 added. "So I do not overlook that Stephane is playing some really great tennis right now and I know I am in for one more battle against him. "Obviously I'd like some revenge for the 2017 closing here and I have had great results against him the last couple of times we've played so the opportunity is that but once again it's taking it point by point and just maintaining the mindset I have had from the other games." However, Hewett really isn't the only Brit looking to turn the tables on a result against their opponent in the 2019 finals. Andy Lapthorne booked his place in the singles with a comprehensive victory over Bryan Barten and scored his second victory 6-1 6-3. He will satisfy a player on course to complete the calendar Grand Slam if he is victorious,'' the Dylan Alcott of Australia. In Friday's round-robin experience between the pair, Lapthorne showcased a number of the quality of tennis we've seen from him. He made himself two game points while shooting on Alcott, almost ending the World No 1 unbeaten singles run, that stretches back into August 2018. However, the British No 1 was unable to take the opportunity. Speaking to Sky Sports, the World No 3 stated:"I've learnt I can conquer him. Friday was a tough one. I played well for parts and that I had the game in my strings. "But I have given myself a second chance to go up from Dylan here and if I get the opportunity to be in that place again I need to place those balls off and hopefully I can get myself a second game point and that I can finish this off this time." After his struggle for the singles titles he will feature in the final along with the world. "it is a huge day and I've got two large matches tomorrow" Lapthorne said. "But this is the reason we playthis is exactly why we train to maintain such positions and it's always a best idea to be playing with the very best player on the planet at one of the greatest tournaments in the world" Read more: here
