For the Dodgers, they will need to discover a way to take advantage of this starting pitching matchup today, since they have lost home-field benefit, and have to find a way to win in Washington should they want to bring the show back home to LA and give themselves a chance to advance. Starting for the Dodgers is Hyun-jin Ryu (14-5 2.32 ERA), and also for the Nationals its Anibal Sanchez (11-8 3.85 ERA). The game total over-under is set in runs. The Dodgers are -139 road favorites. This seems as though they are going to basically tank this game in hopes of Strasburg in game 5 or using a Scherzer, then stealing game at home. And to be honest, it is not a strategy that is terrible. I think they are not fearful of having to perform it again once the assurance was acquired by the Nationals by winning LA in match two. Instead of trying to chain for no rest, along Strasburg or Scherzer, they set up for games five and four and have opted to break them. I like it. Like Sanchez is bad, and its not. The man had a solid season for Washington, however most people didnt think he would be starting a game in this series as Washingtons spinning is with the likes of Scherzer, Strasburg, and Corbin. Sanchez was solid down the stretch because he pitched seven innings in three of his past four starts, and the Nats won his final three starts of the season. And against the Dodgers he submitted strong results also, because his ERA was just 3.18 in 2 starts against LA.. The Dodgers will counter tonight on the road. Ryu seemed like a lock for your NL CY Young Award before falling apart in August. Ahead of the All-Star fracture, Ryu was 10-2 with a league-leading ERA of merely 1.73. However, in Augusthe really struggled because he went 1-3 with a 7.48 ERA in four starts. However, in September, Ryu was able to get his act back together as he finished the year on a top note, as he went 2-0 with a 2.13 ERA in four September starts. The previous three of which saw him pitch seven innings in each beginning and he allowed a total of three runs. As I mentioned previously, I believe the Nats are setting up in this one for games four and five. To me , they are playing the game, and they could pull off the huge upset, although thats not to say that they arent likely to play at home. And that makes them very difficult to back. If they have to face some blend of Corbin, Scherzer, and Strasburg either starting or from their bullpen also move down two games, theyre in a lot of trouble. That means LA will pull the stops out all tonight. I believe Ryu is good, and theyll yank him quickly if not. And I believe Sanchez will likely be adequate too. However, if all is said and done, the Dodgers are going to find a way to win this game and take back the series direct, and that seems to be ok with Washington.
