Neymar will probably be remaining at Paris St-Germain. Since the dust settles it is worth noting that the person least surprised with this will be the PSG forward himself who, despite pushing for a move for weeks, feared by day one this summer that this was destined to fail. The requirement for the outcome of any revenue transaction - be it to get a yard of elastic or a billionaire footballer with ability off - is a ready buyer or an enthusiastic seller, or preferably both. On this occasion, nevertheless, Barcelona believed the champions never wanted to market and PSG always thought the giants never wished to buy. This was the mutual mistrust that underscored the negotiations from the beginning. Even by the convoluted, conspiratorial and brain-achingly complicated minefield that is soccer transfer negotiations, it was likely to be a distinctively unwieldy deal. How did we get here? Back in April, the 27-year-old Brazilian - who proceeded from Barcelona to get a world record to France #200m from August 2017 - started talks to renew his PSG contract. Unfortunately, there were quite a variety of little"problems" which makes him miserable : promises PSG weren't satisfying, boos from some of the fans, a spat with fellow forwards Edinson Cavani as to who ought to take fines, internal divisions inside the camp, even a sense the Ultra lovers were keener on Cavani than himand the atmosphere he wasn't being given adequate security by referees. Back in January, three fouls in quick succession by the Anthony Goncalves of Strasbourg - each one of that communicates - left Neymar with the foot injury that kept him out for 18 games. He was not impressed. A few players exist at a cage in PSG despite boasting one of the world's most powerful squads, along with a bickering, febrile atmosphere was created by a lack of competition in a French Ligue 1 . Neymar loves Paris - who wouldn't? - and negotiated a new contract even though flirting for a while with a return to the Nou Camp and even despite his own misgivings. But then something happened after Barcelona dropped to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals in May. The captains of both Barcelona - Lionel Messi, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquets, Sergi Roberto and Luis Suarez - had been advised by president Josep Maria Bartomeu that not only could the club attempt to get Neymar, but in addition that he was convinced that the player would return. Neymar was advised by players he communicates with frequently (Messi, Pique and Suarez) that the deal would happen and that he was wanted when Barcelona were to regain the Champions League. It got under the Brazilian's skin because he was never completely convinced by his decision. Messi, 32implied - given their own age - Neymar could become the Barcelona universe's middle in a few years. So it began. Now, senior Barcelona players were informed the club had not signed forward Antoine Griezmann out of Atletico Madrid - however their La Liga rivals had said they had seen documents confirming the deal was agreed back in March. The issue was that everyone in Neymar's camp thought Barcelona didn't have the money - especially when, as they guessed, Griezmann was a done deal. Barca needed to take a unsecured loan for 35m euros (Number 31.6m) from banks to make the France international, so one can just imagine the fiscal ramifications the buy of Neymar could have needed for your club. PSG sporting director Leonardo, that returned to the club in June, muddied the waters with comments about the Brazilian in front of everybody to the point where Neymar stopped talking to him. Leonardo realised too late he had crossed the line and backtracked by singing the player's praises and beginning confusion's strategy he's used over the past four months. From the beginning, Barcelona felt the PSG official said one thing to them and the participant whilst following instructions from the owners of the club that Neymar should not be allowed to leave under any circumstances. It dawned the movement was not likely to occur, so that he consented to play and met with club officials before the first match of the season . The day before the match, Leonardo requested him to issue an announcement that he no longer wished to leave. Neymar baulked telling PSG although he was ready to play but wasn't about to start making public statements. That is not surprising. Messages were seeping from Barcelona from his former team-mates requesting him to hang in there since it was likely to take place. In reality, Barcelona wanted to show just how committed to doing the deal they were. The Catalan club whined the dripping of information of a trip to Paris of the decision manufacturers (but not Bartomeu) eight weeks ago wasn't of their doing - however it didn't damage them because it showed them trying hard. The main point was that: when Barcelona desired Neymar it was likely to cost them 215m euros (#194m). The club told PSG that gamers would have to be contained. Eventually, on 27 August, Barcelona submitted the only written deal they ever made - 115m euros (Number 107m) in cash, 15m euros (#13.5m) in bonuses and three gamers. PSG determined they had to be defender Jean-Clair Todibo, midfielder Ivan Rakitic (and reluctantly consented to move), also forward Ousmane Dembele on loan, although the latter swiftly said:"Non merci." France Dembele was not going to move. At one point, intermediaries thought they might be able to change his thoughts, along with the participant talked to PSG boss Thomas Tuchel about four events, however the French team never really pushed the matter using the 22-year-old or tried to talk terms - that again suggested to Barcelona they were not that enthusiastic about doing the offer. Talks continued. PSG started to um and ah about the make-up of their 15m euros at add-ons - but then, when that has been agreed, they said they wanted 150m euros (#135m) up front rather than 130m euros and bonuses. The response in a letter to your team of neymar was: no problem. The Brazilian has been prepared to pay the shortfall in five obligations of 4m euros. A couple minutes later his message came, he was advised by PSG that the Football Federation failed to allow such payments to be made by players. Real Madrid - who at the end said they weren't really interested - had stuck their heads above the parapet and produced an offer of 100m euros and Keylor Navas, James Rodriguez and Gareth Bale. An appearance at Bale's salary was enough to put an end to that idea, and the Wales wasn't going to proceed. In fact, PSG consistently felt Real wished to get Neymar about the when getting rid of some of their squad, and give their fans who sense of schadenfreude that comes when you get one. Italian champions Juventus also entered the fray, offering 100m euros and Paulo Dybala - a bid which was also rejected by PSG. Regardless of Premier League club made an approach, though Manchester United had inquired about the player when he was at Barcelona using a buyout plan of 190m euros (Number 172m). Neymar decided against the move. In the long run,"Spain" was the response Neymar gave when asked where he wanted to proceed, implying he would not have minded visiting both of those La Liga giants. He chose not to say Barcelona or nowherethat when the price went wrong - as indeed it did - he would end up looking ridiculous. Did Barcelona need Neymar enough? It is worth noting when they had to persuade Frenkie de Jong to sign in Ajax, Bartomeu seen the Netherlands midfielder to finish the deal. At no stage during the Neymar discussions did Bartomeu and his dad, the player or PSG counterpart Nasser Al-Khelaifi match. Furthermore, one of the first proposals from Barcelona (perhaps not in written form) has been Philippe Coutinho and a cash figurethat was instantly rejected by PSG for being"laughable". It felt as though Barca not put all their weight . It was a win-win scenario for Bartomeu. It didn't happen, so he can now shrug his shoulders and say"look, we tried", and those who didn't need to have the return of a participant who has taken the club on two occasions have been kept happy. Had it occurred, regardless of the crippling financial burden for a club estimated to become 600m euros (#543m) in debt, Barcelona believed they may have discovered a way around it. If they truly needed that to be returned by Neymar is. As well as needing to do a lot of financial technology to allow it to happen - including getting rid of two of the main earners - that the wage structure in the Nou Camp would have been a headache, since Barcelona are in the limit. No-one knew for certain whether La Liga could have sanctioned the signing, given the limitations of play regulations that were financial of Neymar. Negotiations were going to be complicated by there being no buyout clauses in France. Interestingly, however the following year Neymar will've been at PSG and, according to Fifa regulations, could buy himself following there is a charge decided by a tribunal. If things do not go well for Neymar, which may be the next step. However, it's not all doom and gloom since he does a very least enjoy a respectful and productive connection with all PSG boss Tuchel, and that will resume everything was settled. The way the Barcelona players engaged respond remains to be seen. For needing to ease the move, Can Dembele be cast because the scapegoat? How will those effectively told by the club they were needed feel about remaining? How will the gamers who believed Neymar would be together to strengthen them sense about his non-arrival? Will Barcelona return for the Brazilian - at a later date - this time with all seriousness? Time will tell.
