Suzann Pettersen has insisted she will warrant the controversial decision to award her a captain's choice for this week's Solheim Cup. Pettersen has been the surprise title among Catriona Matthew's four selections for the competition at Gleneagles, in nearly two years while taking a break from the game due to the birth of her child together with the Norwegian veteran having played just two championships. Nevertheless, the 38-year-old, that was initially named among Matthew's vice-captains, declared her match was in"good shape" as she prepares to make her ninth look in the Solheim Cup. "When this potential choice came up, I had been quite frank with the entire captain's team," said Pettersen, who's battling a throat disease. "It was a little bit hard because I had been sort of a part of it as well, being a vice-captain. "However, I feel like I have been really frank about where I felt my game was at at the time and if it was going to be good enough on a point like this. "However, I feel honoured to have been picked and I haven't really thought more about it. My golf game is in good shape, and being it feels like I never left the match, which is nice. "I don't know if it is the air, the power or what that Solheim is about that always sort of brings out the best of all of us. The team setting has become the best, I think, I've ever been part of. "It is enjoyable to be around these new youngsters who are so energetic and really good golfers. It's fun to see. And it's a lot better playing than being a vice-captain, a lot less nerve-racking being in command within the ropes" Pettersen also played down the significance of the American team containing six rookies and was adamant that Europe wouldn't be taking the opposition lightly. "I really don't believe they are rookies on these two teams, they are all excellent golfers," she added. "They've all kind of demonstrated they belong to every group. "I do remember myself being a newcomer back in 2002. It was stressful, yes, but that's part of the game. But skills-wise they are like anyone else.
