Ahead of making his European Tour professional debut viktor Hovland has set his sights on breaking into Europe's Ryder Cup team. This week's event in Wentworth marks the beginning of a year-long campaign that is qualifying to secure a spot at Padraig Harrington's team together with Hovland playing alongside the captain for the first 2 rounds of Europe, for the 2020 competition. Hovland has created a smooth transition into professional golf following a stellar amateur career, submitting top-20 ends in five of his final six PGA Tour begins and procuring his card through the Korn Ferry Tour Finalstogether with the Norwegian now targeting a spot in Europe's team for Whistling Straits. "That would mean everything to become part of the team," Hovland said. "I really like college golf , even though professional golfing is actually cool, I still think about the times we had in college. "There is nothing better than winning a tournament as a team, and hopefully 1 day I'll be part of a winning Ryder Cup team. "I shot a few weeks off two weeks ago, and I received a bit rusty, but it was nice to have a rest in and recharge batteries. I understand what I have and that is kind of the thing. I'd love to improve a whole lot of things, but it is what it's." The Rolex Series event bidding to become the tournament's fourth largest Spanish winner and the first as Miguel Angel Jimenez success in 2008 is arrived at by jon Rahm. Seve Ballesteros and Jose Maria Olazabal are the Spanish success stories in Wentworth, join that exclusive club and together with Rahm seeking to register a win of the season. "Any time I could join or I can have my title connect Spanish golf course, it would be amazing," Rahm said. "I've been lucky enough to perform it at the Irish Open, which meant a great deal to me, my very first win at the European Tour. "To do it here, the flagship event, a championship that a lot of individuals look ahead, it would be wonderful to be the fourth person to arrive and add it for Spanish golf. "Anytime I can combine the likes of 2 major champions and potentially the most interesting man in golf, I'd be really happy and very jaded by it." The BMW PGA Championship through the week live on Sky Sports. Live coverage starts on Thursday from 9am on Sky Sports Golf and 10.30am on Sky Sports Main Event.
