Catriona Matthew believes this week leading Europe at Gleneagles would be her greatest accomplishment in golf. A Solheim Cup participant, matthew, captains a powerful aspect in Scotland, where the hosts are looking to avoid a third successive defeat at the biennial competition. The 50-year-old won the 2009 Women's British Open and finished winning Solheim Cup sides throughout an illustrious playing career, but feels victory those past successes would be gazumped by this week. "I believe it [Solheim Cup win] would be right at the top," Matthew explained. "I have always adored the Solheim Cup. When it comes about it has been the highlight of my profession every 2 years. "Some of my best moments have been at the Solheim, and now I think to be a winning captain at Gleneagles in Scotland would position just about above my British Open triumph. "It is amazing that it is finally here. It has been, in certain respects, a quick two years and I feel these next couple of days will only fly past" Matthew's final Solheim Cup appearance came from Europe's 16.5-11.5 conquer a couple of years ago, if the Scot made the last-minute change from vice-captain to participant to replace the injured Suzann Pettersen. Team USA leaving the visitors with six rookies in their side and have drafted to shoot more than Stacy Lewis, have been forced into a similar adjustment before the year's contest. "Obviously that is tough for them and disappointing," Matthew added. "We had been in precisely the identical scenario last time with Suzann [Pettersen]. I'm sorry for Stacy [Lewis]. "You've got that type of relation of having on the group, being chosen, and then not being able to play as you're hurt is unfortunate for them. Ally McDonald is player that is solid, a good player. They've got an replacement . "I suppose being a rookie it's a slight unknown quantity. They're all great players, but you've seen previously some rookies excel and come from. Subsequently other rookies who sadly just have found it a little all a bit too much." Pettersen yields for Europe and makes her inaugural Solheim Cup appearance, even though making three starts November 2017, though vice-captain Dame Laura Davies is completely behind her inclusion for a captain's choice. "Why would not you need Suzann Pettersen on your team?" Davies said. "She hasn't played a massive amount of tournaments, however, game play is extremely different. You do not need to run 72 holes together. "At the end it might be difficult for someone who has not played, but 18 hole match play I'd back Suzann [Pettersen] every time. In case you have Suzann or another player on the sheet, you may rather play with the other player. "Suzann can be very tricky on the market. It's wonderful for us. It's amazing that she attracts that standing to our team, and I would never overlook Suzann Pettersen ever." See the Solheim Cup throughout the week live on Sky Sports. Live coverage starts with the Opening Ceremony on Thursday from 5.30pm on Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Mix.
