In his BBC Sport column, center Hadleigh Parkes looks forward to Wales' World Cup opener and shows the way his team-mates and his have been enjoying the civilization in Japan. Everyone's so excited because of our World Cup effort to begin. Now that we are here in Japanwe just need to get trapped inside. We've been building towards this for a very long time, not just pre-season but the previous two decades, building a lot of strength in depth and training hard. We watched the opening game on Friday and we can not wait to begin on Monday with our very first match against Georgia. We are a few of the last teams therefore it will be nice to kick off, after which it's all about creating momentum so we're here for as long as possible. That's the reason why we're here, to have a successful World Cup, but it has been great to have in Japan's culture. I was looking forward to trying some foods and it has been wonderful to sample it for real. There is a stat doing the rounds that Jonathan Davies Foxy, and I are since I left my Test debut two years 38, the partnership who have played the most matches together in international rugby. We have got a excellent connection on the pitch and, luckily, it is a one off it too. Foxy's at finding good places to eat excellent and, like me, he's always keen to find out about cultures and the customs of different nations. On one of our days off during our training camp in Kitakyushu, some of us Foxy, Dan Biggar, Wyn Jones, Tomas Francis and me - caught a bullet train and moved for the day to Hiroshima. I enjoy looking into places' history and culture, and that has been a place I really wanted to see. We got there and had a peek at some of the remnants of the atom bomb which went off there, and we went to the museum. It was really interesting but very extreme. It was all very humbling. Having a look round and thinking about what all those people went , it was a experience. Afterwards we decided to take a look at the city of Hiroshima, and it is a nice place. While we're there, Foxy discovered a Japanese restaurant which served okonomiyaki, a pancake that could be layered having an omelette or pancake, noodles, meat, veg - all! It was very yummy and it was great to eat the Japanese manner, gathered around a little pub, sat in the front of the food because it was being cooked, and the restaurant was really bustling, full of people coming for a dinner after work. It was like we were back in Wales if we have been in Kitakyushu because of messages and the flags around. The Welsh Rugby Union did a great work over the past few years setting up that association between Kitakyushu and Wales, and we can see the benefits of it. Everywhere we went, people were stopping us in the road and shouting"rugby players! Wales!" To people. The people here have been really nice. They respectful, always bowing - you virtually throw. It was awesome as they embraced Wales and Welsh rugby to maintain that town. The training session was incredible - I don't think I have ever been involved in anything like it before. That audience of 15,000 people was larger than lots of the audiences we buy in the Pro14, and that is not taking anything away in the Pro14, it had been only an incredible reception. So a lot of the boys have been getting homesick everyone's away from house, but I am utilized to get away from your home. I moved away from my parents in a young age and went to boarding school, so I'm a bit more used to it compared to many others. It's a very long time for individuals to be out of their kids, wives, girlfriends, parents. People do actually say"you enjoy traveling, don't you, so you know where to go for food that is nice", and I do, and luckily I have Foxy as well who is very good at that.
