Tyrone Mings admits an England call-up felt like a"different world away" when playing non-league while working as a mortgage advisor only seven decades back. Gareth Southgate to the European Qualifiers called up the Aston Villa defender against Bulgaria and Kosovo, something that he couldn't envisage happening when turning out to Chippenham Town. The 26-year-old - today 6ft 5in tall - was released by Southampton as a youngster for being too small, but after bouts with Ipswich and Bournemouth after breaking into pro football, he played a key role on improvement at Villa as they secured promotion back to the Premier League. Villa boss Dean Smith chose to sign up on a permanent deal on the summer, and after some impressive performances in the opening four games of the campaign, Mings is keen to impress for England. "After I was playing football part-time and working as a mortgage adviser I had different objectives, playing England looked like another world off," he explained. "I just needed to get back into the professional game in that point. "I can't say that although I had been sat in my desk cold calling or seeking to notify people with their mortgages that playing fort England was a viable aim. "But I've been in a position to operate with some fantastic coaches and been in a position to perform for some fantastic clubs, everything has surfaced for me to the point. "At different times I have had to reassess my objectives, with injuries and so on, but that makes being sat here even sweeter." Read more:
