Joe Theismann does not think Dwayne Haskins should begin Week 1, but the Washington Redskins will not be consulting with the former No. 7. Redskins senior VP of player personnel Doug Williams informed NFL Network's Steve Wyche on Tuesday the team has been thrilled with Haskins' progress and noted any decision will be collaborative between himself, coach Jay Gruden, staff president Bruce Allen and owner Daniel Snyder. LATEST ANALYSIS ??? Team matches for best remaining FAs ??? Ranking deepest place groups ??? NFL triplets rankings: Who's No. 1? ??? NFC West primer: Camp questions ??? Rank: Can Redskins surprise? "I know that there is words out there that he might wind up starting, and that could occur, but at the close of the afternoon, it's going to be on Jay, myself, probably Bruce (Allen) and the proprietor, after what he does during the preseason and see where we are as a team to make that decision," Williams said. "I don't wish to mention he's going to start Game 1 now, but it has been a nice and pleasurable scene to find out what Dwayne Haskins has done over the last few weeks." A team making a collaborative decision on the future of a QB is nothing new. It, however, does underscore that the gushing comments about Haskins of Gruden will not be the sole factor in whether the QB begins. Focus will be grabbed by snyder. This was the Redskins owner, after all, who was the largest supporter of Robert Griffin III as the last first-round quarterback of Washington. Can the proprietor play a similar part in the decision to begin Haskins if he believes it best to get his staff and brand if that decision differs from his employees' opinions? During the preseason and training camp, Haskins must prove able at the conclusion of the day. If the newcomer is the QB, then there'll be no questioning the Redskins' choice. On what he's seen from Haskins so far, williams glowed. "I believe No. 1, it's been a great offseason," he said. "No. 1, to possess Dwayne in camp and be on the sideline during OTAs and minicamp, and see the young guy do what he is done, and how he's taking command of the opportunity he's had. You talk about a man that's come from a situation where (he never) went under center. To see a man walk up from the huddle and realize the poise he has, the patience he's exhibited, there's room to have a great deal of hope" If Haskins displays a similar kind of improvement during training camp, then there will be even more expect mounting in D.C.
